How a Grandma keeps her mind fresh

It starts with lessons.......

Every day I try to learn something about what you can do with a drawing program. Often I am thinking at first that I will never have a use for whatever particular gem of info I am learning that day. But as I keep working, I find that most of the new skills I have learned can be useful in creation of my next International Birthday Card. I find myself creating something I never even knew I wanted to make, and thinking of which language would work best with my new design.

That's How I Came to Make a Greek Happy Birthday Card

Once I am done following a video lesson, it's time to practice. In this Greek Happy Birthday Card, I found that I could make repeating patterns as a border reminiscent of the Greek flag.  Naturally, I needed figure out how to make a pretty good drawing of some of that wonderful Greek pottery quite famous in Ancient Greece. The classic shapes of Greek storage vessels, such as that of The Amphora will always be in style. So far, I have kept the decoration quite simple, using symmetry and suggestion, just as the first makers of Greek pottery did. Eventually in Greece, artisans began painting pots with complex scenes taken from the bottomless fount of Greek Mythology stories, from nature, and from human figures, sometimes engaged in battle.  My work, even as it evolves and becomes more complicated, is not likely to include wartime scenes. I'll cleave close to the serene, the pleasing and the calm.
